I am extremely anti-Bush as you know.
I still can not decide this issue for certain.
It is not the same as school prayer, where one islamic person would be bombarded with baptist, methodist or whatever prayers on a 30-1 basis. I am against organized school prayer in a big way.

Why should headbands be disallowed if that is their belief as long as the school does not promote it? Then again, put an atheist into a school where nearly everyone is baptist and the kids taunt him because he is not wearing a cross and all of them are. I can understand why in fairness, ALL religious symbols should be banned.

You are correct in that there was no intelligent discussion on the matter at all. Also we area talking about France and why should we even begin to be telling France what France should do on this clearly delicate issue. That is probably my biggest gripe, and one again why should we dictate standards to the entire rest of the world when we do not even follow our own standards (case in point, holding people in Cuba and denying them legal representation). If someone did that to "US combattants" we would have a sh*t fit. In fact, how does it differ at all from the Iranian hostage issue? We have not even charged these people for Christ's sake. I am digressing off the original question here but there are several issues.

1) US hypocracy
2) US butting its way into areas that it should not concern itself with
3) how does anyone here feel about this issue if it were to happen in the US as opposed to France.

It was the latter I hoped to get some commentary on.
