Dale I will again defer to your knowledge of Europe but isn't the tabloid mentality just as bad there? It doesn't mean that people are bad. It's just that throughout history people are stuck doing their daily battles. They need a bit of release and would rather read or watch some salacious crap than real news. It's unfortunate but I think that we pseudo intellectuals who think are opinions are so important are in the minority. We have to constantly take stock and realize that. The only ones who really get it are those who, throughout history, have taken advantage of the working class to climb to power, realizing that most of us do not have the time or energy to fight tyrants, whether they be real tyrants or tax and spend tyrants, coming to power with promises of "the better life," all the while lining their own pockets and those of their compadres. The Romans had their games and probably their gossip networks. The more things change ...........

From what I read, the love for tabloid journalism and stupid shows is even higher in Europe and Japan than in the US, which still must find ways around the Puritan past in many areas.

Hey - I'll confess I watched Paris Hilton and had a great laugh. I think she fits in more with my perception of spoiled rich Euros than the spoiled rich American kids I know. It was fun seeing her have to shovel manure and the like. Now - have you seen the tape? <ggggg>
