The Malaysians and Indonesians may deplore the actions of Israel in regard to the Palestinians, and not be anti- semitic. They cannot, however, claim a worldwide war between Jews and Muslims, and that the Jews rule the world behind the scenes, as a rational response to Israeli actions in the Middle East. Of course they are anti- semitic.
I was not discussing conformity to the GATT, or ostensible violations, I was discussing relative anxiety over neoliberalism (that is, the embrace of free- trade and greater reliance on markets). You are not following the points very well. Indeed, I noted that the European leaders were still "on board" with liberalization, for the most part, but that "altermondialist" concerns were seeping into the mainstream. That happens here, too, but not, I think, to the same extent, as judged by discussions in major media.
By the way, I translated and posted an op-ed piece from Le Monde on the divergence of values, to which I believe you are alluding, some time ago. Of course, it tends to support my point. After all, if Americans value risk- taking more than Europeans, and the French value social solidarity more than Americans, it will be reflected in relative anxiety about the WTO.
Once again, you do not deal forthrightly with several major points, not "with rationale", but by ignoring them. Ah well........ |
