Steve,

"I'm sure you must be writing your Knesset representative that Israel should also get rid of its nuclear, chemical and biological weapons which are causing the arms race in the Mid-East in the first place. "

I've lived in the USA all my life.

It may interest you to know that I support efforts to have Israel come clean about their WMD programs. Ultimately, I would love to see those weapons subject to international inspections and dismantled.

I'm sure you must realize that Israel began a nuclear program back in the 60's as a response to the hostility of neighboring Arab states. Israel was (and still is) a small country and they had considerable fears concerning the combined military might of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. So, these weapons came about because of the fear and distrust.

I believe strongly that if we could eliminate those fears we can ultimately eliminate these heinous weapons and I support any reasonable effort that could bring this about.

One observation I'll make about the 'arms race' of the region. The two Arab countries who did develop such weapons didn't do so as a direct response to Israel. The two countries that developed WMDs (Libya & Iraq) used them against their fellow muslims. Iraq used them against the Kurds as well as the Iranians and it is widely known that Qadafi used mustard gas in his conflict with Chad.

It's interesting. I view this news about Libya as an excellent and historical event for the region, but all you can do is cast dispersions upon my motives.

Tell me, please. Do you think that Qadafi has made a wise move? I'd really like to know.
