Oh, yes, this article was sourced from State, until you get the quotes from Ross and Telhami, two of the usual suspects for talking head quotes on the Middle East.

While Sharon professed that he is committed to the U.S.-backed peace plan known as the road map -- which he has disdained for months

...as opposed to the grave respect shown to the road map by the Palestinians.

Sharon does seem to have caught all major parties on the hop with this speech. I keep wondering why the Palestinians keep sounding so dismayed; if Israel withdraws unilaterally from so much as an onion patch, the Pals won't miss the opportunity to trumpet the victory. I can only conclude that whining and accusing the Israelis is the Pal default reaction until they can get their new party position together.

I love how State refers to all Israeli withdrawals as "positive" - in the complete absence of any sort of working Pal government at all, just bunches of terrorist cells, financed from Damascus and Riyadh, and Brussels, let's not forget the Eurocrats.

What Sharon is saying is, we'll withdraw behind a wall of our chooosing. You won't like where it is, but tough. Of course the Pals will whine and seethe and go the UN and other friendly courts to complain - but they won't be able to prosecute their intifada very well unless they switch to missiles.
