I think it was Lenin who said that the Capitalists would fight over who could sell them the rope to hang them with but the Chinese figured out that they could better hang us with paper than rope.

When you are bought you are owned. And being dependent on someone to provide you with financing for ongoing operations is pretty much the same thing.
