Mish's HD Report
Informal and only involving 1 store.

Went to HD today and the store which is normally pretty active (8 or more possoble checkout lanes) had 2 lanes open and they were no lines. I mean NO lines, not even 1 deep.

In fact the whole store was dead.
Just in case my perception was wrong I asked a woman clerk if she worked at HD last Christmas and got an affirmative reply. Then I asked how business was compared to last year and she said "terrible".

If this is typical, then
a) people have everything they need
b) people can't afford to buy any more whether or not they need stuff or not
c) people are starting to genuinely worry about their debt levels or the econony for the first time
d) the Greenspan pump has simply stopped working for whatever reason
e) some combination of all of the above

I am headed to a huge mall tomorrow and will post Mish's informal mall report.
BTW is this is commonplace it is DEFLATIONARY.
