Zack speaks on his blog today...

Morning good readers. I reached Islamabad, Pakistan a little more than a couple of hours and I'm quite surprised by the city. Rather than deteriorating, it's kept largely entact it's "Stalinist" avenues and actually expanded on the infrastructure. It's been four years but Pakistan has seemed to have tremendously improved in it's organisation, security and development with the population seemingly no more or no less Islamic than it once was. Granted the analysis is of a fruition of a couple of hours of observation but I was surprised in the Pakistan airport that the immigration office was booking our details on one of the latest computers.

This is no African nation rather a paen of Islamic progress and thankfully despite four years of continuous residence in the West I don't feel a culture shock. Rather it reminds me of the film whereby the principal characters visit their homes after a space of ten years to find nothing has changed only that they have grown and what was once part of the routine has become a novelty. Places, shops and people that used to be an integral part of my life in Pakistan are being rediscovered and I'm once again delving into the recesses of my consciousness to restor memories of life in Pak.

I'm here till the 7th of the New Year and I've promised myself that I'll engage principally and dutifully in the therapeutic activities of sleeping and writing. I don't know whether I'll hold to that but I do remember on those shivering 6am commutes to work I dreamt of sleeping through my vacation in Pakistan. I don't think I'll keep to that promise especially since I have old friends to drift back into contact with and explore the very much hyped nightlife, which I've been told about.

Will keep updating at a future date...
