I saw that one last night, and my impression is we still aren't getting anything close to the facts related to Hussein. I also thought Ray's input on date harvests was interesting, if perhaps not conclusive. Personally, I have trouble believing Saddam, clean shaven in March, was able to grow a two year beard in 8 months. It's been quite awhile since I've worn a beard, but as I recall, it takes a good 2 months just to get past the dirty face looking stage.

Note that all the sources quoted in the article are of the usual anonymous propaganda variety. Also note how nicely the "drugged Saddam" ties in with the "disoriented Saddam" of the earlier reports. The first wave of news on his capture was quite careful to set the hook describing someone appearing to be under the influence of something. Keep in mind that he was identified by DNA tests which have frequently been proven unreliable, rather than with finger prints which are 100% fool proof.

What I think you're seeing is a bit of preemptive damage control in the event the MK Ultra-ed "Saddam" doesn't perform as programmed in the event of a trial. If the scam falls apart under examination, just blame it on the Kurds and a false reading on the DNA tests, with the usual media limited hang outs. Six months later, you'll probably still get a 60% reading in polls that Saddam was captured.
