I raised my kids in the 60's and 70's without Health Insurance. That was mainly before Medicare came in and really pushed up the price level. We certainly have built up a new level of expectation, and I think some of the push for it comes from the Social workers who profit from administering it. "Gotta get little Johnny and Jill to the Doctor more often!? This business of running to the emergency ward instead of a Doctor's office is out of control. I saw a ton of it in California. My youngest son was the a big user of it. Got out of paying his bills that way.
