This article exemplifies why I fear that, despite the justice and generosity of our acts in ridding Iraq if the Baathist tyranny, we will never be able to impress a Western style democracy on the region. The fundamental human values which we hold are so different from those that are held in the Middle East that the forms of government we have founded to reflect our social values cannot be successful in the social environment of that region.
