WUHAN, Dec. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- China will launch a special education program to train at least 300,000 skilled workers for the manufacturing sector in the coming five years.

The program, to be mainly focused on numerical-control technology and automobile repair, will be included in the nationalaction plan for education rejuvenation for the next five years, said Education Minister Zhou Ji at the second national meeting on vocational education held in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province.

China is faced with an urgent need for large numbers of skilledworkers after its admission into the World Trade Organization.

The minister called on higher vocational schools, which shoulder major responsibilities for training applied skilled personnel, to gear their courses toward employment and explore good ways to combine learning and research with practice in factories.

The ministry has drawn out plans to build about 40 high-level, open, regional training centers around the country, according to Zhou. Enditem
