populace as a whole is ignorant of the first ammendment ... witness instead the popularity and primacy of the phrase "separation of church and state." An idea that is itself, ludicrous -- the only way to separate the church from the state is to remove all those who practice their beliefs from any participation in government.

I think if you polled a large number of people on the street and asked them if that phrase above appeared in the constitution -- they would say yes ...
