Dubrovnik Airport, Croatia Installs Carmanah Taxiway Edge Lights
November 27, 2003

Dubrovnik Airport, Croatia will be installing Carmanah's solar powered LED Aviation Lights for taxiway edge and barricade lighting applications during the upcoming 2004 season. With no current power in certain locations of its airfield, Carmanah lights will provide Dubrovnik with increased safety for daytime and nighttime visual guidance, while not having to access the power grid. This is an additional saving to the airport's recent investment for additional power infrastructure made in the year of 2002.

Carmanah's solar powered LED lights will also provide the additional benefit of being fully mobile during times of construction and/or taxiway closure.

Auckland International Airport, New Zealand to Use Carmanah Taxiway Edge Lights
December 8, 2003

Auckland International Airport (AIAL), New Zealand, has ordered 55 units of the Carmanah Model 601 taxiway edge light for the upcoming R-5 Runway rehabilitation project scheduled to begin April 11, 2004.

Carmanah taxiway edge lights will be used to re-route taxiing planes around the closed runway section 05R/23L. Airfield maintenance crew will benefit from the lights being independent of a power source, completely self-contained, maintenance free and equipped with a rotary on/off switch for taxiway control at temporary installations.

By using Carmanah's solar-powered LED lights for the visual guidance cues, planes and the airfield maintenance crew will not be faced with the burden of cabling and wiring being strewn across existing taxiway and runway surfaces.

US Air Force Installs Carmanah Taxiway Edge Lights at Ali Al Salem AFB, Kuwait
December 12, 2003

The US Air Force recently purchased an additional 700 Carmanah solar powered LED taxiway edge lights to be installed at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The recent purchase is in addition to 300 units previously ordered.

As well, an additional 280 taxiway edge lights were relocated from the now closed Al Jaber AFB. With Carmanah's unique fully-integrated solar LED design, USAF personnel were able to quickly remove, transport and reinstall the taxiway edge lights at Ali Al Salem Air Base with minimal technical expertise. The total number of Carmanah taxiway edge lights at Ali Al Salem now totals approximately 1280 fixtures.

Carmanah's solar powered LED taxiway edge lights have provided tremendous economic benefits for the Ali Al Salem Air Base. Total savings can be calculated in the millions of dollars, as the need for power, wiring, cabling, regulators, supporting infrastructure, and ongoing maintenance was eliminated.

There are now more than 4,000 Carmanah Aviation lights installed at more than 25 US Air Force and Army bases in the Middle East, Southwest Asia, and North America.

Truckee Tahoe Airport has recently purchased 560 units of the Carmanah Model 601 for permanent taxiway edge lighting at its picturesque general aviation airport located in Lake Tahoe, California.

After an extensive comparative economic analysis, Truckee Tahoe Airport was able to save more than US$272,000 over an 8-year period versus using a traditional hard-wired system. In addition, the opportunity cost saved was an estimated value of US $975,000 that could be used towards upgrading other airport infrastructure. By installing solar powered LED taxiway edge lights, Truckee Tahoe Airport will also benefit from energy and maintenance savings of US$18,000 annually.

Truckee Tahoe airport will be monitored by the FAA's AND 411 Technology and Safety Program as a case study under the newly proposed general aviation (GA) lighting guidelines for GA airports across the United States.
