Hi Alvan,

You need to set up a margin account with your broker in order to short a stock.

With all due respect, if you have to ask this question in this forum you should probably stay away from shorting until you fully understand the mechanics, risks and strategies. You'll also need an in-depth understanding of the stock, the ability to closely monitor it, the stomach to handle volatility and the strength except loss.

This is my opinion, you may already know these things and I may have judged you wrong. In any case, good luck and happy investing!
