I saw the Jessica Lynch interview. She disputed some details, but by no means the substance of the original reporting. Her main problem was embarrassment at the fuss made. The controversy never went beyond allegations.

Insofar as politics entered the equation on the timing of the vote, it was to put maximum pressure on the Congress to get the vote. The Democratic myth of a cave- in is ludicrous. Public opinion on the war was volatile. If the Democratic leadership had led a concerted counterattack, it may very well have prevailed. In fact, the leadership supported Bush because it thought he was right on the main point, as Gephardt has made clear. It was by no means certain that pressing the vote would benefit Republicans.

It is interesting that this version makes more sense to you. It builds a theory on very little.........
