Chuck, it's difficult to impossible to figure out what NASDAQ size means. Market makers are only required to bid or offer for 100 shares. If they show a larger size, it may or may not represent their entire inventory or orders (and, in fact, could represent MORE than their inventory or orders, as they can short without even borrowing the stock). MMs are NOT obligated to reveal the size of their open orders.
They ARE obligated to honor their published size, though.

On the NYSE and AMEX the size is meaningful, and represents the actual number of shares being bid and offered.

The size you see is I beleive that of the most recent inside bid and offer.

Bottom line is that NASDAQ size figures are next to useless.
