Ivanhoe granted mining licenses for Mongolia find
Tuesday December 23, 4:15 pm ET

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (Toronto:IVN.TO - News) said on Tuesday that Mongolia's minerals authority had awarded it four long-term mining licenses, a step forward in the company's plans to build a copper and gold mine in the south Gobi Desert.
Ivanhoe said in a statement the licenses, which replace its four exploration permits, cover the area that contains the firm's prized Turquoise Hill discovery. The licenses are valid for 60 years and renewable for another 40 years.

Although still at an early exploration stage, Turquoise Hill is regarded as one of the world's biggest copper and gold deposits.
