Yeah... I read that article on Zinni today... Buried in the "Style Section" of the Washington Post.

But the article on Wolfowitz which overshadowed it was even more interesting.

My heartburn with the Zinni article is not with the substance of his criticism in the post-war planning and his own contingency plan for occupying Iraq, "Desert Crossing", but that he's failed to acknowledge or understand the strategic trends that have created the situation.

His answer was to maintain the status quo in containing Iraq, perpetuating the failed policy which was starving the Iraqi people, increasing resentment among the Arabs, being undercut by "allies", and stifling any kind of major economic change in the region.

But it ignores the fact that Bin Laden was created out of that effort to contain Iraq, primarily due to the basing of US forces in Saudi Arabia.

But I certainly echo many of his criticisms for the post-Iraq operations.
