Really now. Don't you think your reply was a bit of a cop-out? Those 9 million need not agree with the statement, Liz. No one owes them or anyone else a cushy job.

Those 9 millions were simply misallocated and are now having to find situations wherein they can be useful. Those situations do exist, but many of the unemployed are yet unwilling to fill them because they are still trying to cling to the fantasy of the Clinton years. Contrary to what you may think, I am not being cold-hearted here. I am simply describing the way things work and have always worked. There are about 1.5 million people out of work and who are also "too discouraged" to even look for work. 5 million people work part-time and do not have marketable skills that would warrant anyone's hiring them for advanced work. Millions of others are too inflexible to adapt to the realities around them, choosing instead to pursue jobs of the past. This is not Bush's fault. Ultimately, we are each responsible for feeding ourselves. No one owes us one cotton-pickin' thing.
