Walmart:

Post Wal-Mart, the good news is there will still be opportunities to open stores that sell what they don't sell. The bad news is that list includes only porn shops.

In the clothing line Walmart sells mostly shoddy, dowdy junk.

Can't buy a good sweater in Walmart, can't buy a good suit in Walmart, can't buy a good used car in Walmart, can't buy all the lumber and fittings for a house in Walmart....

If you're a small manufacturer and want to survive, don't make stuff Walmart sells. If you're a small retailer don't sell stuff Walmart sells.

If you're a really small retailer type and like to live on the edge, sell the manufacturers' over runs and rejects from Walmart and undersell Sam.

AND, BUY THE BUILDING.

I find stores really interesting. I visit them the way other folk go to museums. If there's a new store opened nearby, I have to visit it. I love everything about stores.

Walmart is the Woolworth's or A&P of its age and is riding high on the wave of new world wide prosperity and it looks terrifying to many because the world is getting smaller. But I tell you, right now, there is an enraptured Mexican, Brazillian or Chinese person gazing at Walmart and figuring out how get in the ring and slug it out.
