Amidst the holiday cheer, there is a new crisis, the mad cow disease. It was devastating to the cattle population in England and Canada. What are the ramifications here. Its never an isolated case even if it is an isolated case. MCD is down sharply, what else is in play. HAIN is up , they are a natural food company :).
from marketwatch:
"The first reported instance on American soil of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (read more), widely known as mad-cow, sparked selling in shares of beef-related companies, including Dow component McDonald's (MCD: news, chart, profile). Shares of the fast food behemoth slumped 6.6 percent.

Meanwhile, some Wall Street analysts said the mad-cow effect could actually be a positive for restaurant stocks. UBS's David Palmer said the resultant drop in beef prices could help those with exposure to rising prices, and the consumer response is likely to be minimal, give the likelihood that the negative publicity will be "fleeting."
