I hope this is dealt with soon, and in a responsible manner. The Canadian case in May devastated our beef export industry, as tens of thousands of cattle were slaughtered . The US response, like Japan and other countries, was to close the border to any beef products from Canada. It has only recently allowed products to enter again. The Canadian cattle farmer took a huge loss as a result of this disease, and it, too, was only a single case detected by inspectors.
To illustrate the way these matters are dealt with by Customs, no beef products were allowed, in any form. If you wanted to take a doggie bag containing the remains of your T-Bone back to the US from a Canadian restaurant, tough luck!!You could consume Canadian beef in a Canadian restaurant, but you couldn't take the scraps home to Rover!!
I had a can of beef-based cat food in the car one day, that I had purchase before a day trip to the US, and it was seized by Customs. It was destined to be fed to my Canadian cat, but that didn't manner.Makes ya sleep better at night , knowing the borders are safe....... |
