I would agree, but I'm not sure what that means. Mad Cow disease is not a contagious condition. Canada, for example, there's been one case and the reaction, as you note, was irrational, IMO.

There will undoubtedly be the PR campaign that it's perfectly safe to eat beef. And that's quite appropriate. On the other hand, it's safe to eat Canadian beef as well. For the same reasons.

In the US, beef prices are at historic highs. Due in part because of a smaller national herd and due in part to our limiting imports from Canada and other countries.

If there is a consumer reaction in the US against eating beef, that will at least change the supply/demand situation and lower the price of beef.

It's too bad for the US cattle farmer, as they had 5 lousy years and this was their first good year.
