I am not calling you an idiot! However, you are displaying your ignorance of drilling, drill steel, drill bits and purchasing practices in the modern mining industry. The drill consumables suppliers bid for the work on a cost per foot basis. Buy all the booze, gifts, meals or drop cash into an envelope that you may wish or feel is necessary. It may buy you a place on the bidder's list but if you ain't the low bidder, you ain't gonna get the contract.

As for "Jap crap" some would consider that remark racist. I think it is insulting to Furukawa! It is hard to beat a Furukawa hydraulic percussion drill for reliability. Ingersoll Rand has a great marketing team but they were years behind Gardner Denver, Montabert, Furukawa, Tamrock and yes even Atlas Copco in the development and manufacturing of hydraulic drills. And they still have not caught up! And yes, Copco has had trouble in reliability and service. However I still rate them ahead of Rand!

In terms of the old style pneumatic drilling Denver and Rand were the top names IMO. But for the last 15 years hydraulic drilling has been the way to go!

And by the way Fagersta & Secoroc amalgamated about 20 years ago.
