The technology is here. You ARE NOT going to uninvent it. You deal with it or it deals with you. Period. If you don't use it, your competitors and competitor nations will. What's your answer to THAT?
And trying to move the calendar back to 1997 isn't dealing with it.
As has been pointed out, were your philosophy applied in 1900, half of Americans would still be living on farms.
This country is totally dependent on foreign largesse to keep us afloat. Foreigners don't send money here out of the goodness of theit hearts. They do it to buy US products and because investment here is safe and reasonably open. If you believe anything else, you're kidding yourself.
If you think that China and other nations don't have goals to become the world's leading economy...think again. OF COURSE THEY DO! And if you put up the highest protectionist walls imaginable, they STILL will? You think their goals will change because you passed a tariff?
They are now the largest retailer in the world, but they have low overhead because they don't pay the workers livable wages, nor provide medical benefits. If Walmart does that, I will open a store down the street from them that DOESN'T and ear their lunch.
Considering some of the legal problems that at least one Walton has, she probably needs her share of this largesse. Well, dang, I guess my history books are wrong. America never did become the world's dominant economic power. Because there sure was enough chicanery in the 19th century. Far more than now.
Bush imposed tariffs on steel imports, and I guess it was constitutionally sound as he did it! So if he can impose tariffs on steel, it would be simple for him to impose tariffs on goods and services that a US domiciled company generates from such business being done overseas. And I'll make my foreign operations foreign corporations paying into Cayman Islands banks and let you and Uncle Sam figure out what is going on. And that's just off the top of my head. A good lawyer and accountant will eat you and Uncle foe lunch too.
Lazarus, what has made this country so great has been the balance between the haves and have-nots in this country. And iy has been a very dynamic balance. Entire industries and professions exist now that were undreamed of 50 years ago. Trying to stay in stasis is death. It is absolutely the most damaging thing you can do to yourself. I've had 2 professions overrun by technology and have had to find a new way of making a living. And I suspect I'm on the low end in this regard.
There are those who complain about taxes in this country, but they are the same people who take advantage of the benefits from our taxes. People ALWAYS complain about taxes. If they stop, THEN you get concerned because something's up.
Never forget, Bush rails against taxes, but he became a millionaire on the backs of taxpayers in Arlington, Texas. BFD. Joe Kennedy was a gangster and rum runner. His sons were playboys. And Bill Clinton didn't get his sobriquet "Slick Willie" by being a choir boy either.
What you say is of no real importance. You will not win this war, like it or not.
Lazarus, do you think that people in this country are going to let their children die from the lack of medical attention and food? No. They are going to get to work and earn money. Like they always have.
If you're waiting for the Communist Revolution, you're going to die waiting.
If their are no jobs, just how to you think our American way of life will continue to exist. More Americans are employed now than when GWB took office. Look it up, don't take Dizzy Tudor's screeching as fact.
Lazarus, have you ever visited a third world country that serves as a vacation resort for the rich American's? Probably more than you've heard of.
Ever heard of the Roman Empire? Calm down, boy, calm down. I agree Slick left a h**l of a mess behind, but we'll get it cleaned up. Unless the left puts so many strictures on the system we can't breathe. |
