BEIJING (Reuters) - A man suspected of suffering from the deadly SARS (news - web sites) virus has been admitted to hospital in the southern province of Guangdong, a health official said on Saturday.

"We have heard from a hospital that there is a suspected SARS patient in Guangdong. He is a man and he is not a medical worker," a health official from Guangdong told Reuters by telephone.

If confirmed, it would be China's first case of the illness in months. China's last SARS patients were discharged from hospital in mid-August.
