The Fda's position is to protect the gouging profits of the major drug companies.

That appears to be true. The nifty part of the recent legislation prohibits negotiation of cost of drugs between Medicare and the phrarms. Doesn't seem much like free capitalism to me.

After I returned from the States, I needed to refill some long term medications that I take, e.g., controlling chlorestorol and triglycerides. After co-payments, I calculated that our overall prescription costs will go up a mere 500%. My wife asked, "What do people with average income and/or no health coverage do?"

Easy, they die prematurely.

Do you recall when the late Sonny Bono said that he didn't understand how a family earning less than $200,000 per year can manage. That was his "poverty level." I would say he was a bit out of touch with average Americans.
