Following your logic, if Iran elects its leaders democratically, to your standards for elections, and develops and deploys nuclear weapons, that is fine by you?

I would have less a problem with it than I do now with them being a theocratic and repressive regime.

Notice that I stated LEGITIMATE DEMOCRACY. Not just some potempkin version of it without viable opposition parties, or proper governmental accountability to its citizens.

Because when a government is accountable to its population, as well as a viable opposition and media, inevitably the people will be less inclined to engage in illegitimate international agression.

And they will be even more unlikely to permit the use of nuclear weapons except in self-defense.
