Following your logic, if Iran elects its leaders democratically, to your standards for elections, and develops and deploys nuclear weapons, that is fine by you?

Yes, for the same reason that I am much less worried about India's nuclear arsenal than I am about Pakistan's. Democracies don't want to go to war and try to avoid it. Dictatorships are much quicker to go to war as a rule, and need only one man's say-so to do so.
