portage,

Re: Ignore (polling) at your own peril.

I think you miss my point. Which is to say that the whole sick polling obsession in this country is a means of avoiding putting the truth into our newspapers, and the other media. It is a form of mind-control, well described by Brownstein as the "fox-hole buddy" syndrome.

Polls are abused by the pols and the media to create false "bandwagon" effects which become self-reinforcing delusions.

What if Brownstein had devoted the same column inches to debunking to phony Bush economic figures, or explained the massively fraudulent cover-up that is occurring as Bush tries to brush 9/11 collusion and complicity under the carpet?

What, in point of fact, would happen if Brownstein cared to do a journalist's job of exposing government malfeasance and criminality instead of insidiously suggesting that his readers might want to get on the bandwagon and join the winning team with the right buddy in the foxhole.

What if Brownstein were more honest and less propagandistic?

Would Bush still be enjoying his level of popularity in the polls if Brownstein were actually doing his supposed job of informing the public? I doubt it.
