OpenTV Enabled Interactive Services Reach More Than 1 Million Charter Cable Subscribers Monday December 29, 8:15 am ET
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 29, 2003--OpenTV (NASDAQ:OPTV - News; Euronext Amsterdam:OPTV), one of the world's leading interactive television companies, today announced that interactive television services via OpenTV's Wink platform are now available to over 1 million Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR - News) digital cable households. The additional deployments of three Charter cable systems representing approximately 220,000 HH's (St. Louis, MO; Greenville-Spartanburg, SC; and Clarksville, TN) has pushed OpenTV's Charter customer count from 870,000, to over 1 million households as of December 17.
OpenTV provides the interactive television technology platform upon which Charter operates a broad range of interactive television services, including several virtual channels provided by Digeo. OpenTV also enhances both television programs and commercials on several programming networks that run on Charter Communications. Twenty of the twenty-three systems that have launched OpenTV interactive services to date are using Scientific Atlanta set-top boxes, while three systems are using Motorola DCT-2000 set-top box systems.
