Thurston,

I'm A+ certified along with Net+.....When reformatting the drive create seperate partitions....name the C drive Win_XP_PRO...your D drive Application....E drive Library?....keep the C drive small and when downloading anything, try to send it to the appropriate drive.....this way you can isolate future problems with viruses etc and wipe your problem drive periodically ....I regulary install Norton System Works in the D drive and uninstall it when I'm done.....I just keep the anti virus running constantly with the latest updates....I also run the derfag and eliminate cookies that are not needed.
