British Columbia Police Search Cabinet Ministers' Offices

11:45 EST Monday, December 29, 2003

VANCOUVER (Dow Jones)--Police raided the Victoria, B.C., offices of British Columbia's provincial finance and transportation ministers on Sunday, but said the two cabinet ministers aren't the focus of their investigation, according to print and broadcast media reports.

Victoria police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police removed computers, files and correspondence as part of a lengthy investigation that includes staff members who work in the offices, the Vancouver Sun and Globe & Mail newspapers reported Monday. The Globe said the investigation "is alleged to involve money laundering and the drug trade."

RCMP officials weren't immediately available to comment.

The RCMP is scheduled to hold a press conference later Monday in Vancouver.
