News reports said Victoria police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police removed computers, files and correspondence from the offices of two ministerial assistants, but Ward wouldn't confirm exactly what items police removed.

In the initial 20-month organized crime/drug investigation, RCMP said nine people were arrested last week in Vancouver, Victoria and Toronto. They have been implicated in the sale of B.C. marijuana to the U.S. in exchange for cocaine, which was later distributed across Canada, Ward said. Other arrests may follow, Ward said.

The B.C. marijuana trade is estimated to be worth more than C$6 billion, and is producing greater organized-crime-related murders, extortion, money laundering and other activity, Ward said
