My comment was regarding what the author saw as a contradiction and I do not. Capitalism does not require human compassion. That does not make it incompatible with human compassion. Major religions on the other hand, do recognize the benefits, rewards and disparities that exist among human beings. Religion only forbids making a profit by stepping over the dead bodies of your competitors. Profitting by honest endeavor is no violation of scripture, as far as I can tell.
