I think it is appropriate to draw the preliminary conclusion from the Mastercard figures that retail sales were healthy during the holiday season.

And I think it is appropriate to point out that the Wall Street Journal is a notorious panderer to the corporate religion. Which isn't what America is all about. Just a tiny subset of humanity who see fit to exploit others in any fashion they can conceive of.

I'll be expecting you to relay the bad news about cash sales when they are available.

In exactly the same spirit I expect JCS Chairman Richard Myers to level with us about what he was doing on 9/11/01 as the head of the U.S.'s air defenses and he was oblivious to the details, as he tells us he was sitting "in a meeting", and could not tell us why NORAD stood down that morning. We're all still waiting with bated breath for him to get back to us on that one. <ng>
