So, where do laws come from? In democratic societies they come from legislatures. They are sometimes passed quickly in the heat of passion; sometimes they are the result of long deliberations. The conflicting desires of different people and groups of people enter into them. Compromises get made. In a bill that is sure to pass, all kinds or unrelated pet projects will be shoved in. They generally get passes to an executive who must approve them. They then get interpreted and reinterpreted and counterinterpreted by courts as time goes on. But there is no mysticism, no hand of a wise and rational God in this. If you doubt this, take a look at the tax code. www4.law.cornell.edu The making of law is as human a process as exists- -with all that implies, good and bad. And breaking the wrong laws can result in one being sent to find out if their guess about the existence of a god is right or not.
