These troops had incredibly good NCO's, which is the backbone of our Military. The "Shake and bake" days of NCO's are long gone.

Most people who have not been in don't understand that, under our system, the Platoon Commander is the first and last assignment for an Officer where he actually gets to order troops on what to do. From there on up, he tells Officers who carry it out.

The NCO's run the our Military. Other countries, like Russia, have a draftee Army, and the Officers have to run things. Makes it much tougher to train and fight.
