The US is schizo, like several big powers. We do a lot of good around the world, and our fair share of harm too. We had nothing to gain in Bosnia and still poured billions down what is little better than a rathole in a backwater. And Kosovo makes Bosnia look like Manhattan.

Same is true for France and the UK in Africa.

It might make you feel better to know that State and USAID actually have a lot of good people trying to do good things in our name in a lot of obscure corners of the planet. They don't get much attention in Washington or the press, but they (and the many valiant NGO's) are doing good works in the world.

Pity that they get trumped so often by the PNAC types.
