Czech govt approves incentives for Intel PRAGUE, Aug 13 (Reuter)0-500
million greenfield computer microchip plant.
"The government approved some investment incentives in the
case of Intel," said Industry and Trade Minister Karel Kuhnl
after a regular government meeting. He gave no further details.
Intel representatives said on Monday the Czech Republic is
on a short list of countries which the U.S. semiconductor firm
is evaluating as a possible location for the plant. Locations in
the Middle East and Asia are also under consideration, Intelsaid.
Local media have reported that Intel is seeking tax holidays
and other incentives, but the facility would generate up to 12
billion crowns ($350 million) in revenue for the Czech
government over eight years.
The plant is expected initially to employ 3,000 people and
could grow to as many as 9,000 jobs at full capacity.
Industrial areas near the Czech cities of Plzen and
Pardubice are under consideration, the daily Pravo has reported.
Japan's Matsushita has just opened a $66 million
Panasonic television plant in the Borska Pole industrial park
near Plzen, one of the largest greenfield investment's to date
