BUSH 41, APRIL GLASPIE AND THE BETRAYAL OF SADDAM HUSSEIN

Stevefoder,

Re: Yeah Right. I am sure that Saddam Hussein enjoyed George H. W. Bush's support in his bid to free Kuwait from its riches.

You don't seem to be familiar with the history of Sadddam's invasion of Kuwait. Hopefully you will be willing to take some time to learn and understand this back-stabbing double-cross that Bush 41 engaged in.

The proximate cause for Hussein to invade Kuwait was because the al Sabah family, the royal family of Kuwait, was engaged in a theft of crude oil from the Rumailia Oil Field that amounted to about $14 Billion by the time that Hussein reacted. It is of note that some of the slant drilling equipment employed in the theft of Iraqi oil was provided by an oil services company associated with NSA head Brent Scowcroft.

When Hussein approached the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie, she said that the U.S. had "no opinion on Arab-on-Arab conflicts".

July 25, 1990. U.S. ambassador to Baghdad, April Glaspie, met with Saddam Hussein and promised him that Bush "wanted better and deeper relations." She also claimed that the president was an "intelligent man," adding, "He is not going to declare an economic war against Iraq." [Washington Post 12/30/02;

Here's an undisputed transcript of the meeting between April Glaspie and Saddam Hussein on July 25, 1990, just a week prior to Saddam's invasion of Kuwait. Glaspie was fully aware of the invasion, because Hussein was asking for her permission!

HUSSEIN: The price at one stage had dropped to $12 a barrel and a reduction in the modest Iraqi budget of $6 billion to $7 billion is a disaster.

GLASPIE: I think I understand this. I have lived here for years. I admire your extraordinary efforts to rebuild your country. I know you need funds. We understand that and our opinion is that you should have the opportunity to rebuild your country. But we have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait.

Additionally, Glaspie's assurances to Hussein that the U.S. would allow Hussein to redress his grievances against the al Sabah thieves was amplified by Margaret Tutwiler, the U.S. Ambassador to the UN at the time:
