It took me, as a federalist, a long time before I recognized that what was principle to me was code to others and it bothered me a lot, so much so that I quit advocating federalism.

A principled response of Individualism to the race question is immediately attacked as racism. Makes it difficult, because it is true that racists use that as a way to respond also. Any anti-affirmative action position is considered a smokescreen. Makes it easy for the left to attack, and frustrating for a Libertarian position.

I quit using the "private property" argument in talking about race for that reason.
