What fascinating information re: Twain writing about Joan of Arc. I didn't know. Learning this and then reading some of Twain's writings about Joan made my day. Extraordinary person, she was.

Perhaps you already know, if not, here's one for you. When Ulysses Grant was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he lamented the fact that he would leave his wife and children poverty-stricken. Whereupon, Mark Twain encouraged Grant to write his story - which apparently is a remarkable work. Before Grant died, Twain presented him with a check for $200,000 in royalties...that book eventually brought Grant's family over $425,000. :)
