well, wrt health care, I am with you I have major reservations. I do not fault Dean for implementing a program in Vermont if that is what the voters wanted. I'm just saying that if you want to say taxes are high in Vermont, you need to net out the healthcare because that is a benefit nobody else has.

What to do about healthcare... I have no idea. The problem we have in CA is that the big companies are using subcontractors and paying slave wages with no benefits. Hiring illegals in some cases, you name it, walmart being the poster child. Then, when these people get sick they go to the emergency room as mandated by the feds. Who pays for that, me the taxpayer, I am sick of it. I want walmart to pay their own bills and quit sucking off the system. These single payer healthcare programs are one way to solve the issue, I am not sure it would be my choice but otoh, I sure don't want to pay for walmarts healthcare, and some HUGE senior drug program with absolutely NO price controls, while at the same time having to deal with my own healthcare myself! Thats ridiculous and way too much of a strain on working voters.

I would be more sympathetic to the plight of the rich if I didn't just watch the entire federal treasury get doled out in the form of pork. The 90s surplus was created by the jobs growth in the tech industry and stock market, these people put the money in, but that is not who took it out- the republican donors didn't do much to create the 90s imho. The Bush budget was a total ripoff.
