bizarre. Really!
What is bizarre Really! is that you see no connection. Those steam engines were technological changes that made it possible for a few men (and women) to do work that had required thousands previously. Those thousands were as POed about it as you are, but their anger changed nothing. Now the computer and communications revolutions have done it again and work that required high-paid Americans can be be done cheaply for Americans in India. And all your spitting, pissing, snarling, moaning, and whining will change nothing.

The Moving Finger writes;
and, having writ, Moves on:
nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it
- Omar Khayyam, The Rubaiyat

Sweatshops, anyone?
If you know of anything in your area that would actually qualify as a "sweatshop" by 18th or 19th century standards, call your local police. Such conditions are now illegal in all states.

BY THE WAY:
Weren't you libs just recently all gung ho about increasing living standards in the 3rd world? You don't think giving them JOBS just might have that effect? Maybe even better than hand-outs?
