Re: Kevin Phillips -- but going from his relatively dispassionate historical reviews of class and poverty to what looks like an outright alarm over the bushies indicates to me that he's upping the ante.

As have an awful lot of us here on SI and across the globe. When faced with an implacable enemy who is impervious to rationality or any sense of fair play, it is contingent upon all of us to raise our voices in opposition to the tyranny that is being imposed upon us.

Military gunships cruising over the Strip in Las Vegas?
ktnv.com
Bush has gone completely around the corner now. This is the last thing a real democratic leader would be doing. Bush is out of control and needs to be brought to justice.

The last time I saw military gunships flying overhead was on the UW-Madison campus, and they weren't there to protect me from our nation's enemies. They were there to intimidate thousands of us who were expressing our dissent to the illegal and immoral Viet Nam War. And intimidate they did. 50 million beam candlepower search lights and 50-calibre machine guns aimed straight at us tended to concentrate the mind.

America is again under siege, and it is the public who are seemingly the enemy of the police state operators.
