The laboratory confirmation of SARS CoV has raised the issue of other cases. For a reference point, here are the index cases for last season's outbreak. The dates are for first symptoms, but many of these cases were identified as SARS through tracebacks. I suspect that similar cases this season would take several weeks before such cases would be made public. Last year SARS didn't really get going until January: The onset date for index cases for 7 of the earliest 2002/2003 outbreaks in Guangdong Province are: Fushon (Nov 16) Heyuan (Dec 10) Jiangmen (Dec 21) Zhongshan (Dec 26) Guangzhou (Jan 2) Shenzhen (Jan 15) Zhaouqing (Jan 17)
