The snake is dead...Long live Erin...
Queen of the forest and a hound worthy of Diana.

Hey Christine, it turns out it was most likely a snake that Erin tangled
with. I brought her home from the vet yesterday and she was already
much better. The swelling was going down and she could walk on the wounded
leg. The main danger is infection so she is on antibiotics. I was supposed
to keep her in for a couple of days but she was doing so well this morning
and raring to go, that I let her out. The vet said that if a dog had not
managed to kill a snake the first time, that they will often go out and
find it, to finish what they started. So I let her out this morning figuring
(knowing my dog) that the snake was already dead or that she would finish it off.
She returned from her outing with a smile on her face, and is now asleep under
the computer desk.

How goes the throat?
