>>I see things a little differently. I hear Metzger is saying that the PV plant will be cash-flow neutral this summer. I can live with that.<< (xhydrcrbns)

>Actually what Jim Metzer said is that Unisolar has the potential to be cash flow neutral in the 3rd or 4th quarter of next year. There is a very big difference between these two statements IMHO.< (dwmeldrum)

Jeeez, dw. In your resolutely negative carping, you've incorrectly challenged the only half-way-sensible statement that x-hyd has made. X-hyd is wrong above in claiming Metzger said "will be" -- he actually said "potential". (Metzger was making a forward-looking statement, and these are always estimates or speculations -- as he suitably indicated by his wording.) But, Metzger did indicate the cash-flow-neutral potential was by next summer -- that is, by the end of FY 2004 (June 31).

If cash-flow-neutral does not in fact occur by that date, I suppose many here will claim him to be a liar, despite his precisely proper wording. Stempel and Stan have often suffered such abuse, IMO.

The subject Metzger statement was made during the Q&A of the CC following the last 10K filing. Here is what the (commercial) transcript I provided earlier says: (Note that Jim was expansive and informative -- not that the carpers here remembered or appreciated it.)

<<<ED STARK:
Good morning, gentlemen. I'm not going to have time to ask as many questions as I'd like but I guess the most important one is, according to the business plan, when do you see Photovoltaics, batteries, and hydrogen storage turn cash-neutral?

Jim Metzger: Ed, this is Jim Metzger. If I order the ventures in the way that we are looking at them -- the Photovoltaic venture has the potential to be cash-neutral within the 2004 fiscal time frame. Batteries is farther off than that, based upon the certification process, as well as just putting together the orders and looking at when the industry is going to be ready for those batteries. The hydrogen storages would be third on that list, although we should start seeing revenues from smaller projects earlier on. But for that to be cash-neutral is probably more in the 2005 to 2006 time frame. So, if I had to order those three as the most active ventures, that's the order I would put them in. >>>
